📈 Participate in Civic Hackathons

Team up with neighbors, designers, and developers to solve real city problems with data and creativity.

because change doesn’t wait for voting age.

What is a Civic Hackathon?

A short, hands-on event where people build prototypes, analyze open data, and propose solutions for public good — transit, climate, housing, safety, and more.

PROGRAM: Toronto — “Better My City” Winner

I built a prototype of Better My City app at PROGRAM: Toronto Hackathon hosted at Toronto City Hall, using open data and UX to help students make their school routes and communities safer. It won the top prize among 60 participants.

CivicTech Toronto — Weekly Meetups

Civic Tech Toronto brings people together every Tuesday to use technology for public good. It’s an open, hybrid space for anyone to learn, share ideas, and strengthen communities. I’ve joined their meetups both in person and online.

Civic Spark 2025

The Civic Spark event offered youth the chance to connect with community builders, technologists, and organizers, helping them discover how civic innovation happens. It also featured an interactive, hands-on “unconference” day where anyone could lead sessions, explore real questions, and actively contribute — turning ideas into action.

How you can do it too

  1. Find a local meetup or hackathon; bring one clear problem to work on.
  2. Form a mixed team (design + data + community) and build a tiny MVP.
  3. Publish your prototype and share it with a relevant city department.
